The Woman Knight of Mirror Lake

Video review time, and from the depths of exploitative CAT III, here is a very different Herman Yau film.  Proving that there is life in the Chinese Bio-Pic, this film ranks as one of the very best I have seen in a long time.  Highly Recommended.

The video is a bit more off the cuff than usual, its just I had a stinking headache and I just could not get my head around writing.

I had been considering giving this one a look, but was initially worried it was going to be just another one of those fluffy propaganda films they've been making lately celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Chinese communist party coming to power. Gosh, how I just detest those….

But if you like it this much, well… maybe I'll just give it a try too. Thanks for making my DVD shopping soooo much easier!! 😉

Oh, that's one of the great things about it. It so isn't propaganda, in fact the script makes great pains to say she is a gender revolutionary, not a political one. I'm not sure how Yau got away without pandering to the Party really – maybe it's budget was just below the notice of revolutionary eyes 🙂

Or maybe, the theme of chipping away slowly at something to effect change further down the line is just too subtle!

All credit to her father for opening the door and allowing her to pursue her interests.
